The recently rebuilt Chambers Grove Park at the edge of town now features a medicine wheel.

Just a block or so away from this monument, workers unearthed a Native American graveyard, causing much anguish and leading to an apology from the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The treaty mentioned here apparently allowed for extensive mineral rights in the region in exchange for a $2000 annuity (not individual) and a small area of land for mixed-descent Natives. It's an interesting read.

The River is one of the ten most polluted rivers in the United States, but many people still enjoy fishing in it. It's cleaner than it used to be, but faces threats from a proposed massive new copper mine upstream.

The town is low and prone to floods.

The river still has some current here, but slows the more one goes downstream and it widens into the estuary known as Spirit Lake.

Fond Du Lac is both a nearby Ojibwe reservation and the name of Duluth's last West side neighborhood, featuring Mission Creek , the St. Louis River, and the start of Highway 210, which will lead you to Jay Cooke State Park when the road is finally rebuilt (the 2012 flood caused great damage).
